Priority setting and action planning

2023 priority setting and goal planning

I have been away from this blog for longer than I would have liked, but I have been navigating a tragic bereavement, whilst also ensuring that all my work with charities and individual fundraisers was still honoured.

I hope you are all doing well and have managed to get a little down time over Christmas

I think we are all aware that 2023 is likely to be another difficult year, perhaps on a personal front as well as a fundraising front. I don’t believe it is all doom and gloom though, and if we can embrace flexibility, we will get through the difficult times ahead.

2023 priority setting and goal planning

I am not a big believer in resolutions as I often find them a little overwhelming and they focus on trying to make big change all at once. I do, however, like to set and review my priorities on an ongoing basis and then set monthly goals that work towards that. I blend my personal and business goal setting into one activity, because neither are totally independent of each other (although I do have quite firm boundaries in place). I have just written my priorities for 2023 and I thought I would share a copy of the 2023 Priorities planning document that I use. From those high-level priorities, I then use a Monthly Goal Map that helps me to achieve those priorities. I find this is more achievable than a resolution and can also flex as life changes.

I then use this paper planner (affiliate link) to map out my day-to-day work and any actions I need to take to achieve these goals. I like this planner as you can plan the whole month, then break that down into weeks and days. But feel free to use any planning tools that you like. I can often be found with Trello Boards to map out the longer-term goals of my business and Excel spreadsheets to manage both my personal and business finances.
