Incremental Progress

I was reflecting on one area of my life recently and was thinking about progress. On the surface it felt like there was little change, but when I really examined it there was a huge amount of change which had been achieved by slow, incremental and consistent progress.

This certainly isn’t the story across every area of my life, and I am aware that sometimes I jump in with both feet when looking for transformation.

I have been thinking about this a lot over the past couple of weeks and wondering what to say about it. The truth is that I don’t really know! There seems to be arguments for the slow, incremental progress but also for the big transformations.

What I do know though is that in the future, when I feel like there isn’t much change, I will closely examine it and make sure I am not missing the progress because it is slow and incremental. I will also be more aware of trying to be consistent with my development actions, recognising that consistency may not win the race, but it has the power to be transformational over time.

I am really interested to know your thoughts on this topic.

When I was getting ready to write this, I heard a McDonald’s advert. Not my usual style but I will end with a quote from them:

“Change a little, change a lot”.
